Coming First At Welsh Regionals!

Hi there! It's Hypernova. This is our first blog post on our new website so we're going to talk a bit about the Welsh Regional Finals and how it went!

F1 in schools is normally held in person annually, but this year due to the pandemic the competition was online, meaning we had to submit our work digitally and watch the racing on the F1 in schools UK YouTube channel.

On Monday the 12th was the Welsh Race Day, where entry, development and professional classes raced separately. We were the first Development race against Team Imperium, who are also our dear friends from school. The cars raced four times, twice in lane A and twice in lane B. Our fastest time was 2.70 however Imperium was faster than us in each race.

After watching all of the development races we saw the leaderboard where Imperium was the fastest, then Team Mach One, and then us in third place. However we weren't disappointed as third was an amazing achievement!

Also on the Monday, we were mentioned on the Race Show for our sponsorship ROI (Return On Investment), and were told that our progress reports were impressive to other teams.

The Award Show was then on Wednesday, meaning that we had to wait a whole day to know if we had won any awards or progressed to Nationals. It was an excruciating wait, especially for the first half as we hadn't won any awards, even in the areas which we thought were our best. However, to our surprise we were awarded the Development Best Engineered Car! We had no idea that we would win the awards, so we didn't film our reaction and were ecstatic.

But then came the big moment, the top three. We'd like to congratulate Team Firestorm for coming third and Team Imperium for coming second. We were very worried as they were about to announce the first place, and thought we wouldn't be progressing but then the announcers yelled Hypernova and we all started celebrating, as you can see in the video below:

F1 in schools is such a fantastic opportunity! Now we're heading to the UK National Finals where one Development team has a chance of going to World Finals! We're going to give it everything we've got and it will be an honour to compete against so many talented teams.

We'd also like to shoutout Team Imperium once more, and Team Astra from the Professional class who came second in Wales.
